Protect Your Driveway This Winter

Your driveway is an asset to your home. It deserves to be protected year-round, especially in the winter months when water and ice can cause significant damage to the pavement.  Your driveway is particularly vulnerable to potholes and cracking from late autumn through early spring, which also happens to be the best time to prevent and treat damage.

How can I protect my driveway?

Prevent potholes and excess cracking with Crack Fill. Crack fill is a synthetic polymer rubber which meets all DOT & Fed Specs SS-S-164 used to fill cracks in your driveway that range between 1/8”-1” wide.

Why should I protect my driveway?

Filling cracks helps to ensure that the surface is protected from water accumulations during the rain and snow seasons. When cracks are left untreated, water can penetrate through the cracks and freeze. When water freezes beneath the surface, it creates a forced expansion that will eventually widen cracks leading to potholes and costly repairs.  These repair costs can be minimized by properly maintaining the driveway on a regular basis.

When should I protect my driveway?

It is recommended that cracks be filled anytime between November and March as long as the cracks are dry and the humidity is low. Crack filling in the colder months is ideal, as the cracks are at their widest. Cracks generally expand in the colder months, while contracting in the summer months. Please note: only straight cracks should be filled. Filling the cracks once per year will extend the life of your asphalt.

For added protection, a sealcoat can be applied once the crack fill has been installed. A sealcoat will provide an extra layer of protection and add a deep black luster to your driveway.
